The Stephen D. Paine Scholarship

Established in 1999 by the Boston Art Dealers Association, the Stephen D. Paine Scholarship is designed to support students who are in their final year in studio art programs at colleges in the city of Boston.

As young artists conclude their undergraduate studies, the Boston Art Dealers Association (BADA) would like to extend financial assistance in order to support their commitment to the making of art.

APPLICATIONS FOR 2025-26 ARE CLOSED AS OF OCT. 24, 2025.

The Award:

  • Two (2) scholarships of $4,000 to be awarded in the form of cash grants to the recipients.
  • Up to four (4) prizes of $1,500 will also be awarded as honorable mentions.
  • The Boston Art Dealers Association hosts an annual exhibition featuring the work of the Stephen D. Paine Scholarship recipients at a local Boston gallery.

Eligibility Requirements:  

  • US citizens and non-citizens are welcome to apply.
  • Applicants must be eligible for financial aid.
  • Applicants must be in their final year in a studio art program or studio art major and may be working in any visual art medium.
