The Globe and Mail recently interviewed Ellen Remmer, TPI Senior Partner for an article titled, Why ‘Getting Smart’ on Philanthropy Makes Sense for Advisors, which covers philanthropy, advisors, and impact investing. In the article, Ellen dives into how people can have an impact through philanthropy while integrating other financial plans.

The article explains, “Chequebook philanthropy is a straightforward response to a charitable need: write a cheque to support an issue or an institution. In contrast, with strategic philanthropy, ‘you’re looking at specific outcomes,’ [Remmer] says. ‘It’s often more long term, more systemic. Sometimes, people refer to it as problem-solving philanthropy.’ Getting strategic with philanthropy may mean bringing additional vehicles into play.”
